About Dr. Betsy Halsey
Clinical Psychologist

Hi there! I’m Dr. Betsy Halsey.

I am passionate about raising awareness of the escalating problem of internet porn addiction and other sex addictions in our culture, and I offer hope and healing to those who are suffering from sex addiction.

I’m a clinical psychologist with a busy private practice in Rockville, Maryland.

I work with adults with depression, anxiety, sex addiction, and trauma, to help them experience healing and wholeness.

My life’s work is to facilitate transformation.

When I first entered professional life, long before becoming a licensed psychologist specializing in clinical practice, I worked with social advocacy organizations to effect change on a state and national level.

I then entered the ministry, believing that lasting change would come only as individuals’ hearts were transformed.

Serving as an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church, I realized that many people experienced blocks that kept them stuck in defeating patterns.

As a clinical psychologist, I help individuals and couples overcome their obstacles and transform their lives. And this brings me great joy!

Sex Addiction Specialization

As a clinical psychologist, I have specialized in sex addictions for over 10 years.

This specialization emerged from my years working at St. Luke Institute (SLI) in Silver Spring, Maryland, a world-renowned treatment facility for priests and other religious.

At SLI, I worked with clients who had become entrenched in compulsive sexual behaviors: anonymous sexual encounters in parks, rest areas and bath houses, inappropriate sexual relationships with parishioners, even pedophilia and ephebophilia

Since then, as a clinical psychologist in private practice, more and more clients suffering from sex addiction (both addicts and partners) have come to me for help.

I work individually with sex addicts, sex and love addicts, porn addicts, and with partners of addicts. I also work with couples who are struggling because sex addiction shattered their relationship.

While I continue to learn by consulting with other colleagues who specialize in sex addiction and reviewing current publications...

...my clients are my greatest teachers.
